Welcome to the Illertal Kennel, located near Denver, Colorado where we breed Deutsch Langhaars,
a versatile gundog for the on foot hunter. While searching for a kennel name, I remembered growing
up as a child in Germany, listening to many hunting stories as told by my grandfather.
The "ILLER" is a river in southern Germany where my grandfather had his hunting property known as a "reviere".
After moving to the United States in 1970, I developed a passion for hunting upland game and waterfowl.
In 1990 I was introduced to the German Longhair Pointer. After many years of hunting with different
gundog breeds, I had finally found the type of dog I was looking for. In 1992 I purchased Rika, my
first German Longhair. Soon after, I started looking to Germany to research information on the Deutsch
Langhaar, which I found to be bred to the original standards that were in place for over 100 years. That
they had not been "Americanized" as so many other gundog breeds had been, it was my biggest draw to the DL
breed. In 1997 we imported our first Deutsch Langhaar, Muck Chamavia. He was a very fine young gun dog
and was our first DL to be breed certified by the Deutsch Langhaar Verband (DLV) in Germany. We have
always bred to the German breed regulations/standards and have never veered off that course. Since 1997 we
have imported and certified 5 DL's. We believe that the German breeding standards and requirements are
what is responsible for the consistent quality gundogs that represent our kennel. We presently breed with
Dena vom Emsdeich and Lexis vom Loensstein.
This picture shows Anton vom Haselrath,
our founding stud dog for Illertal Kennels,
on the cover of the Deutsch Langhaar
Mitteilungen. It was quite an honor to
have his picture on the quarterly newsletter
from the Deutsch Langhaar Verband in Germany.

In September of 2002 I visited the "Schorlemer"
this is where the best GLP's in Germany were
tested in a HZP (Fall breeder test and breed
show) and for me it was a dream come true.
