Hunting

I have hunted upland game as well as waterfowl with my Deutsch Langhaars and have always been amazed at how adaptable these dogs are.

This was a great hunt in eastern Montana with lots of sharp tail grouse, Hungarian partridge and pheasants for the dogs to work. We had spectacular fall colors as well as weather. We got a few early season ducks too!! Bird hunters live for those trips!!

Lady, my great tracking dog, produced 3 roosters just minutes apart on that frosty Kansas morning. You can still see the frost on the top of her head!! And of course, I missed the 3rd bird….. Dogs sure have a way of letting you know you missed…..

These are only some game species we have hunted over the years with our Deutsch Langhaar. The Deutsch Langhaar is also a superb water dog and make great retrieves on duck and goose.

A trip to southeastern Colorado to harvest some snow geese!! I took Lady with me to see how she would handle the big bird - no problem with it!!

We were hunting chukkar in Oregon - this was a really challenging hunt. The shots are either uphill or down hill on some real rough terrain. The birds don't waste any time smoking out!! It was also hard on the dogs - the lava rock is not kind to their pads.. Never the less - the dogs showed us some great points and retrieves on these elusive birds.
